Street As A Venue

One element of Responsible Hospitality Edmonton’ mandate is managing the other 9 to 5 (9 pm to 5 am) to mitigate the impacts of the night-time economy on neighboring residents and day time businesses.

Hospitality zones are natural gathering areas for shopping, eating at restaurants, drinking, dancing, enjoying music or just hanging out. ‘Street as a Venue’ is a program that treats an entire hospitality zone as a single entertainment venue or event, making it easier to coordinate support services and programs required for a smoother operation.

One of the busiest hospitality zones in the city – Whyte Avenue in Old Strathcona has been the first area of focussed effort. Emrging issues identified on Jasper Avenue are currently being reviewed by the Jasper Avenue Working Group.
